The CINJF Award of Hope Gala:
October 1, 2011

The 2011 Award of Hope Gala was a wonderful celebration of all that makes CINJ great! Three terrific honorees and a wonderful “young philanthropist” were applauded by an appreciative crowd of nearly 400 CINJ donors, supporters, patients and well-wishers.

As they were seated in the ballroom, guests celebrated the outstanding contributions to advancing cancer research and treatment that have been made by Award of Hope for Leadership in Research recipient, Eileen P. White, PhD, who is Associate Director for Basic Science CINJ as well as a Professor of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Rutgers University. A special video (see left) was then shown highlighting the Award of Hope for Philanthropic Leadership Honorees Scott and Aileen Glickman, founders of Century for the Cure, presented by Dr. Roger Strair. Scott and Aileen’s heartfelt acceptance underscored the compassion and humility that are hallmarks of what is most important at CINJ. Finally, guests were introduced to an outstanding young man, Dan Hertz, who received the Young Philanthropist Award for his efforts to bring awareness to and raise funds for cancer research at CINJ.

Dinner and dancing followed before guests were asked to take their seats once more for the evening’s auction. CINJ Foundation Board member Bob Campbell took the microphone and urged guests to raise their numbered placards and bid high on wonderful items that had been donated for the occasion. Urged on by professional auctioneer, B.J. Jennings, guests generously bid on a vacation to Isle of Palms, South Carolina donated by C. R. Bard, Inc. and Yankee season opening day tickets donated by The Greg Wolf Fund and Herrick, Feinstein, LLP.

Next, guests were treated to the unveiling of CINJ Foundation’s newest video, “Spectrum of Hope” (see left). The video underscores the mission of CINJ, to provide the most advanced care for patients and their families in a compassionate and healing way. The video also reiterates how patients truly inspire the team of physicians and scientists at CINJ to work harder every day to provide new hope for those suffering with cancer.

Invited to “purchase” research minutes, guests bid with extraordinary generosity, raising over $75,000 in a few short, but very memorable moments!

The remainder of the evening was pure celebration, as guests danced late into the night and enjoyed coffee, cocktails and desserts galore. A wonderful night of generosity, good spirit and fun, the 2011 Award of Hope Gala truly showed a “Spectrum of Promise.”
