About Us

THE CANCER INSTITUTE OF NEW JERSEY FOUNDATION
CINJF is the entity that raises philanthropic support for CINJ. CINJ is the only organization for which CINJF raises money. The Foundation received its tax-exempt status as a not-for-profit corporation by the Internal Revenue service in May 2005; a copy of that letter can be viewed by clicking here.

Because CINJF is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) public charity under the Internal Revenue Code, all gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Our tax ID number is 20-2959012. Upon receiving a gift, we will issue you a receipt; for gifts associated with an event, a product or a service, the Foundation will provide you with the tax documentation.

THE CANCER INSTITUTE OF NEW JERSEY
Within a remarkably short period of time, The Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ) was established and met the rigorous standards of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) to be designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Comprehensive distinction places CINJ in a position of nationally recognized excellence shared by only 39 other institutions across the country and is the only such center in New Jersey.

THE CINJ STORY
As recently as the late 1980s, New Jersey lacked a center specializing in cancer research and treatment to which residents could turn. They were forced to seek care out of state, and as we say, "Cancer does not travel well." Public, private, and corporate leaders—including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the State of New Jersey, Johnson & Johnson, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Saint Peter's University Hospital, and Rutgers University—were inspired to establish a cancer center in New Jersey. In 1993, the founders recruited Director, William N. Hait, M.D., Ph.D., a highly-regarded medical oncologist and researcher. The Institute that started with one physician-scientist/faculty member now has a staff of 500, accommodating 80,000 patient visits annually.

CINJ's renewal of Comprehensive Cancer Center status in 2004 by the NCI, an achievement for which we are very proud, attests to CINJ's ongoing commitment to the highest standards. The people of New Jersey need, and deserve no less.
